so while paris takes its wine and bread seriously, madrid takes its beer and helado seriously. bakes told me that madrid has the most bars and night clubs of any city in the world. despite this factoid, it keeps a chillness. the bars (that we go past anyway) aren't seedy. most are a small "cervecerias" with a sea of comfy tables & chairs out front where you can sit under the shade of an umbrella while the kids play in the nearby square.
our hotel offers tasty lollipops to the kids every morning. its been a fun way to start a day of exploring. can't wait to see what today brings.
